School & Community Center Project 2006 - A socio service project of The Hindu Society of Berbice

ImageThe Hindu Society of Berbice has embarked on a major project. Work commenced on the auspicious occasion of Vasant Navratri, in the holy month of Chaitra 2006 and is expected to be completed in 8 months. This building will serve to educate the youths of the community, from East Bank Berbice to Canje. Offering services so students can develop the work habits, character, and sense of personal responsibility needed to succeed in school, at work, and in society. To offer extra help to those who are struggling in their academic studies. There will be a computer lab with printers and copiers and a well stocked library and resource center. There is enough land also for a safe playground for the little ones to spend their spare time. To truly provide a safe and spiritually charged learning environment for our youths.

We are working together with the community in realizing this dream, and we need your support.

Jai Sri Krishna,

This is to let you know that I attended the (3) nights Bhagwat at the Warrenville Shiv Mandir where Pandit Rajin Balgobind officiated. It was an extremely divine experience, the singing was exceptional and the discourse was simple but effective and to the point, I actually am inspired to go and read the Bhagwat Gita. Pundit you are doing a wonderful job and I look forward to hearing you again in T&T soon.

Jai Sri Krishna

Namaste Pandit Rajin ji,
The very first time i heard Pt. Ranjin preached at a puja in Georgetown, I couldn't stop thinking about the wonderful bhajans he sang and prayers he chanted. They are the most inspirational ones ever and made me felt as if Prabhuji was around smiling on all of us. Then, I accompanied my parents at the Bhuvaneshwar Mandir the following Sunday morning where I think it was pandit ji's first time (ours also) and again listened to him sing and chanted the name of Bhajwan. I cleary remember up until this day two unforgetable Bhajans he sang that lifted Bhuvaneshwar Mandir, " Jai Radhe Shri Radhe, Radhe Radhe Piye Piye" and a sweet one describing mataji's Chunari and her playful times during rainy weather(please make a record of those two bhajans). Then, I attended one of your satsangs at the Devi Mandir in Pickering, Ontarion, Canada which was another BLAST!. You are one of the greatest fathers of hinduism. It is people like yourself who make hinduism alive and who is making it grow as days go by. Congratulations on your newest project, Shri Krishna Mandir in Berbice, Guyana. I think it is very nice of you in coperation with the community at large to involve the young generation in Sanatan Hindu Vedic teachings. I do hope and pray that the kids are succeeding in their Vedic teachings and that one day they will be able to spread these teachings like Tulsidas did with the Ramayana. I wish you all the best now and forever. I would like to leave by saying " Not only Christians can clap their hands and praise God, Hindus can by chanting ' Jai Radhe Shri Radhe, Radhe Radhe, Piye Piye'" (Pandit Balgobind, Bhuvaneshwar Mandir, Guyana. 2001)

Beautiful katha
written by Savita Persaud , October 23, 2006
To all the members of the Sri Krishna Mandir.

Your priest, Pandit Rajin Balgobind is a very revered Pandit in the United States. He did a Katha at the Maha Shiva Parvati Mandir recently and I had an opportunity to attend a few of sessions. I really enjoyed his services, he does a great job at keeping the attention of the congregation. I wish him and your Mandir well. I look forward to seeing him in the Mandir again sometime soon.

Pandit Rajin, we wish you well. Visit us again soon.

Bhagwatam - Fort Lauderdale Nagari Jan 1
written by Pattanjalidal Baichu Sukul B'd , January 21, 2007
Besides complimenting Balgobinji and his support crew for the excellent manner in which they connected so many lovers of Knowledge through 'sankirtan' I must confess that Vyaasji is one to keep. His vision, enthusiasm, and ecstacy are all glorious and need preservation as a living legend. But in order to do so I would like to discuss with concerned persons about how to communicate the obvious: maintaining Panditji's voice and health consciousness. The reason is simple: I saw Hari OM Sharan in the 70s in Trinidad and now again in 2005. Obesity and diabetes have taken toll of such a great soul. We can help panditji share his nectar for a long time to come by helping him connect the dots of mortality .

Rajin-ji, I would like to thank you for inspiring me and providing deep knowledge about our Lord. In New York, I always endeavor to find where you'll be praising the Lord's name, because its a joy to listen to you, your handsome voice, and your words of encouragement for all in our community. You've done a wonderful job in Guyana with the education program, and I hope you continue to become more involved in projects with religion as the basis. We need to learn from you to help sustain our religion, which is our way of life.

I will see you soon at the Maha Shiv Parvati Mandir in the Bronx. Thank you, and may the Lord forever be with you and grant you the accomodation to continue to glorify his name.

ps: You need to stop eating so much pera!
Andy. :)

Pandit Rajin Balgobin in his Yagna
written by Nanda , October 30, 2007
Namaskaar.

It is quite Symbolic that Nav Ratri happened during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

There were two Major Hindu Conferences during this Month of October and when one looked at their Agenda/Topics --none dealt with Domestic Abuse or any social problems--if I am wrong I would be very happy to apologise especially since it would mean that our leaders are not ignoring this problem!!

Pandit Rajin Balgobin in his Yagna for Nav Ratri at the Milan Mandir and then at the Yagna at the Maha Lakshmi Mandir in New York City, spoke at great length about the issue of Domestic Violence, Respect for Women, Protecting our Children, Alcohol Abuse among other social problems. He was rather forthright and it was very heartening to see this young Pujari fearlessly attacking topics that many Hindus ignore. No one boycotted his Yagna, no one sucked their teeth and walked out as he spoke, no one heckled him--he had packed audiences each night.

Domestic Violence affects all and we cannot continue to hide our heads in the sand and pretend it does not exist or that by ignoring it, the problem will disappear. As we continue to refuse to address this situation, we are only driving away our own. Today, I was taking to this once very active Hindu and he said that now, he doesn't want much to do with his religion. He is tired of the way our Hindu leaders behave and now he has had enough. Another Hindu lady told me that she stopped going to Mandir after someone who was supposed to be a highly respected Hindu leader lied to her--a lie that ended up destroying her future. She does not celebrate Deepavali nor Holi even. Another Hindu woman who was quite devoted to God, stopped praying because her husband abused her and with the same mouth that cursed/abused her at home, preached to the public. Another Hindu woman had some problems and went to her Pujari-- he made a pass at her --she left Hinduism. Another Hindu lady said that she didn't like Bhagwaan because her abusive husband was devoted to Him and treated her and her children badly. A teenager hates Hinduism because of his abusive Father.

As I am writing I can image the voices saying-----"aw, these are just a few cases, why should one be bothered?" or that " One should not make another person stop them from loosing faith in God !!" What we have to remember is that all these people were hurt by people who were supposed to love and protect them. These people who are supposed to give people faith and keep everyone in Hinduism, drive away them away instead.

A few years ago, I helped someone who had lost his home in a fire, he was a Hindu turned Christian. When I went to help, I had no idea what religion he was and when I found out that he was not Hindu anymore, it didn't deter me from helping him. After he moved into his new home, he requested that the home be blessed according to Hindu rites. That he choose to do a Hindu ceremony, made me extremely happy and I personally arranged the ceremony and even made the prasad. An act of kindness, showing compassion may not only stop Hindus from leaving but can bring back those who have left. Pandit Rajin Ji raised several thousand dollars during his Yagna that he will use to give out food hampers to needy families in Berbice for Deepavali. He said that he will not discriminate in whom get these hampers--they will be given to any needy families. This is another way that we can bring people to Hinduism---simply by kindness and compassion.

Again, as we reflect on Nav Ratri that has just gone and Deepavali that will be celebrated next week, we should think about the reasons why we were given so many opportunities to honor The Supreme as Devi/Ma/Shakti ! Why did Bhagwaan/the ancient Munis saw that it was most important that we honor Her! We see in our Sacred Scriptures-- the Devi Purana for example; even in the appearance/Leela of The Lord in the Sri Krsna Avatara, He needs His Shakti. What about us mere human?

My prayer again is that every Mandir be also a place where any victim can be able to seek shelter. That there must be personnel and funds available to help victims. We need to have counselling sessions for both Victims and the abusers. Every Pujari/Acharya/Swami must make it their duty to get the necessary training to properly counsel their followers. Please let us make the issue of putting the Hindu Family First be our number one priority.

Hari Om Shanti

Regards,
Nanda
