Image Holi aayi re Kanhaai rang chhalke sunaade zaraa baasuri – holi aayi re aayi re holi aayi re
The spring festival of holi has arrived, Oh Krishna play for us the sweet music of your flute. The spring festival has arrived !!!

One popular episode of Srimad Bhagwat Mahapuraan that is associated with Holi (Phagwah) is Prahalad’s Charitram – history of the young devotee of Sri Vishnu Bhagwan.

As recorded in Srimad Bhagwatam, Hiranyakashipu was the king of demons, and he had been granted a boon by Brahma, which made it almost impossible for him to be killed. The boon was due to his long penance, after which he had demanded that he not be killed "during day or night; inside the home or outside, not on earth or on sky; neither by a man nor an animal; neither by astra nor by shastra". Consequently, he grew arrogant, and attacked the Heavens and the Earth. He demanded that people stop worshipping gods and start praying to him. This is a key note for everyone to take, that power certainly can lead to corruption.

Maha Shivratri - The Great Night dedicated to Lord Shiva
Thursday, 21 February 2008

ImageShivratri, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is celebrated on the moonless night of the month of Phalguna, which is the fourteenth day in the krishnapaksha or dark half. Owing to a special planetary conjunction, spiritual practices done on this day are considered to be especially auspicious and beneficial. There is a reference to this in one of the Puranas, where Shiva himself tells Parvati Devi [the Divine Mother] that this day is particularly dear to him, and that those who perform the prescribed austerities on this day will be freed from all sins.
