Sri Vaikuntha Ekadasi - Srimad Bhagavad Gita Jayanti
Wednesday, 05 December 2007
Image
December 20th commerates a very special day especially for Vaishnavas (worshippers of Bhagwan Vishnu). It's the auspicious day of Sri Vaikuntha Ekadasi and also Gita Jayanti. Vaikuntha ekadasi marks the day the doors of the holy abode of Bhagwan Vishnu is opened for devotees and Gita Jayanti marks the anniversary of the day Sri Krishna sang unto Arjuna and the world on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, the Srimad Bhagvad Gita.

The Gita as it's known worldwide is the direct word of God. Modern day scholars refers to it as the instructional manual on how to live life. It's used widely by today's motivational speakers due to it's context which solely deals with knowledge of the self, understanding one's being and coming to realize the inner potential and strength. It's the base of Sanatan Dharma. It owes it origin to Bhagwan Sri Krishna engaging in a conversation with Arjuna on the battle field in the famed book called the Mahabharat. This great text has proven itself to be personal to all aspirants that has truly made a world impact.

Diwali Sandesh 2007 - Shubha Deepavali
Wednesday, 07 November 2007
ImageOn a religious level, Diwali is celebrated through the worship of Maha Lakshmi, the goddess of light and prosperity. Two very important entities all aspirants crave. To have their life path illuminated so one can achieve maximum material and spiritual benefit. “Light” is symbolic of knowledge that dispels ignorance, strength that dispels weakness, confidence that conquers low self esteem and self worth, having a goal and disciplining one’s life so that goal could be achieved, be it that goal is acquiring religious merit (dharma), material wealth (artha) enjoyment (kaam) or liberation (moksha).

Diwali Sewa 2007
Tuesday, 06 November 2007

In the Bhagvad Gita, Bhagvaan Sri Krishna sanctifies the three commandments of Sanatan Dharma, namely:

1) Yagya (Thanksgiving service)
2) Daan
(Charity)
3) Tapah
(Sense control / Self control)

"Maanav sewa hi to Maadhava sewa hain" Service onto mankind (charity) that is offered selflessly without an expectation is direct adoration to Him.

The Hindu Society of Berbice once again together with it's generous supporters carried out their annual Diwali sewa, distribution of grocery hampers to poor families in guyana on the occasion of Diwali. Over 30 communities were once again served. Poor families, single mothers/fathers, senior citizens were targeted as recipients of the distribution. It took days to prepare the hampers and equal amount of days to distribute. Please do have a look at this years' pictures.

Shubh Navratri
Friday, 12 October 2007
ImageThe time has arrived for the worship of the Almighty in the feminine aspect - Supreme Goddess Durga.

In the Srimad Bhagvad Gita Sri Krishna states: "Pita-mahasya jagato mata" "I am the supreme father and mother of this world." Worship and adoration to the Supreme in the form of the almighty father is practiced by every major world religion, with the exception of Sanatan Dharma which has recognized the Supreme as having both the paternal and maternal affection for it's creation. Fathers will sympathize their children but mothers will empathize, one will feel for while the other will feel with cause we are a product of her being.
